Pachuca won the Derby of the Americas Championship by defeating Botafogo by a score of 3-0. The win means that Pachuca will now face Al Ahly on Saturday in the Challenger Cup, with winner playing on the Intercontinental Cup against Real Madrid. The competition, which is the equivalent of the old Interamericana Cup (which had the Copa Libertadores facing off against the North American Champions Cup winners) , means that Pachuca became the third Liga MX team to win the cup besides America (1978, 1990) and Pumas (1981) to win the tournament. The only other CONCACAF side to win it was DC United in 1999, the last year it was played.
