Orlando City to privately finance downtown stadium

The club will purchase the stadium site for the city and build a larger facility than initially planned, it announced Friday.

Orlando City will finance the construction of a downtown stadium, the club announced Friday.

The MLS expansion side currently plays in the Citrus Bowl where the club says attendance has exceeded expectations. The team now hopes to open its new venue in the summer of 2016, no longer having to wait on state funds which were being delayed by debate in the Florida Legislature.
