Newcastle United has appealed to the Football Association after Fabricio Coloccini's red card in the derby defeat to Sunderland.
Newcastle United has appealed the red card given to captain Fabricio Coloccini during Sunday's defeat to local rival Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
The skipper's dismissal late in the first half was the turning point as Newcastle went on to lose 3-0, with the Argentinian sent off after colliding with Steven Fletcher inside the penalty area.
Both the penalty and the dismissal caused much debate as Sunderland racked up a sixth consecutive win over the Magpies with goals from Adam Johnson, Billy Jones and Fletcher.
