CHICAGO (AP) Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe has been picked for the U.S. national team, less than two months after becoming an American citizen.
New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga also was on the 23-man roster announced Friday and could make his national team debut in World Cup qualifiers against St. Vincent and the Grenadines at St. Louis on Nov. 13 or at Trinidad and Tobago four days later.
Forward Clint Dempsey was not included. Defender Fabian Johnson was despite a spat last month with U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
The 25-year-old Nagbe was born in Liberia and left the country with his family when he was young because of civil war.
