Minnesota United to build stadium in St. Paul

The MLS expansion side announced Friday that it will build a stadium in St. Paul.

Minnesota United will call St. Paul home when it joins Major League Soccer.

William McGuire, the owner of the team, and Chris Coleman, mayor of St. Paul announced Friday that they are working together to put a stadium with a capacity near 20,000 on the Snelling-Midway site. That site currently sits vacant and is owned by the Metropolitan Council, according to the Pioneer Press.

“Today we are one step closer toward the debut of Major League Soccer in Minnesota,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said in a statement.
