The Mexico Under-20 team defeated the MLS Homegrown team 2-0 in the third ever MLS Homegrown game on Wednesday night. Chivas forward Luis Marquez scored twice in the first half to lead Mario Arteaga’s side to a comfortable victory over Major League Soccer’s rising stars.
The MLS Homegrown side, who was being coached by U.S. soccer legend Landon Donovan, was on their heels for much of the first half, and in the 33rd minute, a penalty was called for a foul on Luis Marquez. The same Marquez stepped up, and despite coming close to making the save, a hapless Jesse Gonzalez saw Marquez’s shot settle in the back of the net.
