The value of international friendly matches always seems up for debate, but Mexico's contest against Panama on Tuesday will serve a larger secondary purpose than anything that happens on the field. It's going to be a party.
This was always going to be an unwieldy match. At best, Mexico can get some real international minutes for young players who will be called upon during World Cup qualification starting next month. The worst-case scenario, that the match would be a dirge, mourning a loss to the United States in the only game that truly mattered this international window, is already gone.
