Having the Tigres boss as an interim manager doesn't set up the Mexican national team for future success, writes Jon Arnold.
It's hard not to feel like Mexico didn't just settle when the national team named Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti interim manager on Friday.
Hiring the Tigres boss is a bit like buying food at the airport; you know it's not the best option or the best value, but otherwise you're going hungry. Apparently, if Tigres are to be believed, Mexico wanted Ferretti to be the big meal at the destination.
"Ricardo Ferretti declined the Federacion Mexicana de Futbol's invitation to become the new manager of the national team because of his promise to the project at Tigres," a statement read.
