Mexico fall to Nigeria in U-17 World Cup Semifinals

Mexico had to settle for a spot in the third-place match of the U-17 World Cup after falling 4-2 to Nigeria on Thursday night.

El Tri had taken an early lead through Kevin Magaña, but it took just eight minutes for Nigeria to change everything Kelechi Nwakali scored from a free-kick to level the score and Orji Okwonko made it 2-1 in the final stretch of the first half with a brilliant shot from outside the area.

Mexico started the second half brightly, and Diego Cortes renewed hopes when he dribbled his way past several Nigerian defenders before driving the ball in for the 2-2.
