Mexico topped Group C of the 2017 Gold Cup after masterminding a 2-0 victory over Curaçao on Sunday.
The result, which came right after Jamaica’s 1-1 draw with El Salvador, ensured Mexico set up a quarterfinal clash with Honduras.
El Tri started the game at fierce pace, with Curaçao opting to sit back. Despite having more of the ball possession, however, Mexico were struggling to get much joy from a well-drilled Curacao defense.
Mexico did eventually score the breakthrough in the 22nd minute as Angel Sepulveda fired in a superb cross from Raul “Dedos” Lopez.
The break sparked a brief spell of pressure that saw Curaçao strike the woodwork twice and force Jose de Jesus into action.
