On July 22, Ozil released a statement on Twitter with a three-page explanation of his decision to stop representing the DFB over "racism and disrespect."

The man himself claims, "In the eyes of [DFB President Reinhard] Grindel and his supporters, I am German when we win, but I am an immigrant when we lose.
