Veracruz traveled to Nuevo Leon in Mexico, looking to add misery to Monterrey, who lost the Copa MX final at home to Cruz Azul earlier this week, while los Rayados looked to regroup after their loss and deal some misery of their own on Veracruz, who are the bottom team in the Liga MX table.
Monterrey appeared to have a rather thrown-together lineup in what appeared to a 4-3-3, with Jesus Gallardo, Dorlan Pabón, and Avilés Hurtado in the lineup, all of which usually play on the wing. In addition to those three, Rodolfo Pizarro and Luis Madrigal were also in the starting XI, with Celso Ortiz the only usually recognized central midfielder in the lineup, along with Nico Sanchez, Leonel Vangioni, Edson Gutierrez, and Jesus Molina on the backline.
