Former Bayern Munich midfielder Mehmet Scholl launched a stinging attack on Mario Gotze on Tuesday evening, insisting he doesn’t train hard enough to earn a place in the team at the Allianz Arena.
Scholl, a gifted playmaker himself, was asked about the former Borussia Dortmund man ahead of Germany’s 4-1 friendly win over Italy, which Gotze played in and scored. And he didn’t hold back in his assessment of the 23-year-old, who he thinks is a shadow of the player he was at the Westfalenstadion.
“Why can't he produce consistent performances?” asked Scholl, per Jamie Anderson of the Daily Star.
