According to Steve Bates of the Mirror, United could still make a sensational move for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale. Citing "Old Trafford sources," Bates reports United remain interested in the £95 million-rated Welshman.
The news comes in the wake of manager Louis van Gaal admitting he could sign a "surprise" attacker this summer, per Rob Dawson of the Mirror.
The 26-year-old endured a difficult season at the Bernabeu, as a number of subpar performances earned the wrath of the Madridistas, and boos directed at Bale could often be heard from sections of the crowd.
