Manchester United Women have named star midfielder Katie Zelem as the new club captain on the eve of the eagerly anticipated 2019/20 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season.
The 23-year-old, who was named United Women’s Player of the Year at the end of the triumphant 2018/19 promotion campaign, takes over the armband from Alex Greenwood after the former skipper completed a move to European champions Lyon last month.

Zelem scored 10 league goals from midfield last season as United stormed the Women’s Championship to secure top flight promotion, while no one else started more league games.
