It was clear from prematch interviews that Wayne Rooney and Louis van Gaal were less than impressed with the greeting they received when their coach was driving up Green Street on the way to the Boleyn Ground. Following a week of hype about West Ham's last game at their long-term home, before their move to the Olympic stadium, Rooney suggested the club would be "disappointed" by how their fans started the evening, when smashing up United's coach. They won't, however, be disappointed with the result or how it was earned.
West Ham started the game well before United tried to take the energy out of it by keeping possession in non-threatening areas.
