Sevilla won their third consecutive Europa League title after coming from behind to beat Liverpool 3-1 in Basel.
Daniel Sturridge gave Liverpool the lead midway through the first half with a brilliant strike with the outside of the boot, a goal that was richly deserved for Jurgen Klopp’s men after a dominant opening 45, but Kevin Gameiro tapped in just 17 seconds after the restart following a rampaging run from full-back Mariano to start their comeback.
Sevilla captain Coke swept in just after the hour after a good move to give his side the lead on the night, with the Spaniard ensuring the Europa League trophy would return to Spain once more after a cruel deflection left the attacker in acres of space, with the 29 year-old lashing home to dash Liverpool’s hopes of a 12th European crown and a Champions League berth next season.
