Javier Tebas has been talking about Lionel Messi and specifically about his importance to Spanish football.
La Liga president reckons the Barcelona captain is the most important player to ever have graced the Spanish top flight and is quite simply a cut above.
“Messi is part of Barcelona and will stay there,” he said.
”We consider him part of LaLiga Santander and he transcends normal players.
”He’s an icon, the most important player that has passed through our league. He is a level above.”
Messi’s contracted to Barcelona until 2021 but club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has already been talking up another renewal for the Argentine in recent weeks.
