La Liga to persevere with overseas match plan despite Barca withdrawal

Barca backed out of their game at Hard Rock Stadium due to a lack of support for the game, but still want to play a fixture abroad in future

La Liga will persevere with their proposal to play a league match outside of Spain despite Barcelona pulling out of the planned fixture against Girona in Miami.

As part of a 15-year agreement between Spain's top division and Relevent Sports announced earlier this year, it was proposed Barca would face Girona at Hard Rock Stadium in January.

But the Catalan club said on Monday they are no longer willing to go through with the match because of a lack of support for the idea, although the Catalan giants remain open to the possibility if and when it is backed from all quarters.
