Joan Laporta launches bid to regain Barcelona presidency

Joan Laporta, FC Barcelona’s club president from 2003 until 2010, wants to be the club’s president for a second spell. He’s officially launched a campaign to win the post, one that came as no surprise to those in the know, as strong rumors have been hinting at this eventuality for a long time.

A lawyer, Laporta also served as an MP in the Parliament of Catalonia after leaving FC Barcelona.

Under his leadership, Barcelona won the treble for the very first time in 2009. He went under tumultuous times as well, most notably in 2008, when a motion of no confidence almost forced an exit.
