Jardim extends deal with Monaco

MONACO (AP) -- Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim has signed a new deal with the French club until the end of the 2018-19 season.

Jardim arrived last summer from Sporting Lisbon and took over from Claudio Ranieri on a two-year deal. Despite the departure of star strikers Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez, he guided his team to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

With two rounds remaining in the French league, Monaco is in third place and well positioned to secure the final spot in next season's Champions League behind Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon.

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev said ''we are confident that Leonardo is the right coach for our philosophy, to enable the club to be a major player on the national and international scene, while allowing our talented young players to develop.
