Iceland's Viking chant terrified England - Shilton

The Three Lions fell to a shock defeat to the minnows at Euro 2016 on Monday and the country's most capped player insists that the chants ultimately affected Roy Hodgson's men

Former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton has blamed the country's 2-1 defeat to Iceland at Euro 2016 on the opposition's Viking chant.

Goals from Ragnar Sigurdsson and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson gave the minnows a remarkable victory in France on Monday, and saw them progress to the quarter-finals of the competition in the process.

It was another dark day in English football as manager Roy Hodgson tendered his resignation immediately afterwards, triggering a post-mortem of what exactly went wrong in France, something that has become a reoccurring procedure following major tournaments.
