Back in March of this year I asked Gary Neville, who was appointed Valencia coach on Wednesday until the end of this season, whether he wanted to become a manager or whether he'd be always be happy splitting his time between television punditry and coaching.
"It's difficult," he replied. "My opinion on management is that it would have to be opportunity-led. Where are the opportunities? I've been offered two or three roles in the past few years and felt it was too early for me. I didn't want to go into management straight after playing. I wanted to learn more and understand more.
