Club America closed off its anniversary weekend on a high note with a 1-0 over the league leading Xolos de Tijuana on Saturday night at Estadio Azteca.
Michael Arroyo delivered the shot to end the stalemate and send the team into a celebratory mood in front of its home crowd.
Arroyo’s goal arrived in the 79th minute as a result of a free kick taken near the left-hand side of the box. The shot taken by Arroyo traveled to the right post and bounced past Tijuana keeper Federico Villar.
Prior to Arroyo’s goal, America came close throughout the game, with Silvio Romero having the closest chance with a header brazing by the left post.
