Global Soccer: Germany and Spain Restore the Old Order of Things

LONDON — They’re back.

The German and Spanish national teams played with such calm authority over the weekend that if you are thinking of betting on anyone to win next year’s European Championships, you should get your money on these two.

Both reversed losses they suffered a year ago. Germany, still partying after winning the World Cup and adjusting to the retirements of key players, was beaten in Poland last October. And Spain, humbled and hurting after a shockingly poor World Cup in which it was eliminated in the first round, lost in Slovakia in the same month.
