After a brilliant run in the 2018-19 domestic season that saw Atalanta finish third in the league table, the Italian outfit qualified to play the UEFA Champions League (UCL) for the first time in their history. But Gian Piero Gasperini's men have not had the smoothest of starts in their maiden Champions League campaign as they have lost their opening two fixtures against Dinamo Zagreb and Shakhtar Donetsk respectively.
After getting outclassed in a 4-0 defeat to Zagreb, their defensive frailties once again came to the forefront when Shakhtar's Manor Salomon broke Italian hearts with an injury-time winner at the San Siro, which is Atalanta's adopted home for their European campaign.
