LONDON -- Three observations from Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, a result that more or less ends Liverpool's shot at a top four finish.
1. Steven Gerrard cannot rescue Liverpool
Gerrard did not look overly enthused after answering Chelsea fans' sneering chants with his headed equaliser before half-time. A solitary punch of the fist sufficed for celebration, for he knew that one goal and one point would not be enough to keep hopes alive of returning Liverpool to the Champions League as a final, valedictory act.
There is some faint hope yet. Liverpool need a six-point and 14-goal swing over just two matches to stop Manchester United taking fourth.
