Both teams went into the game knowing that a win would seal a place in the Round of 16 (and, most likely, first place). In circumstances like this, it's almost a free hit. Fail to achieve victory and you get a do-over in the third game against either an already virtually eliminated Ukraine (in Poland's case) or Northern Ireland (if you're Germany and no disrespect is intended).
