Garza set to undergo hip surgery, will be sidelined 4-5 months

The U.S. national team defender will miss the CONCACAF Cup against Mexico and the rest of the Liga MX Apertura season with Club Atlas.

Club Atlas officials revealed on Thursday that U.S. national team defender Greg Garza will undergo hip surgery that will keep him sidelined for 4-5 months.

Sources confirmed to Goal USA that Garza has been battling sports hernia symptoms since the end of the 2014 season but continued to play through discomfort, as well as taking pain injections, for the past nine months. As a result, he developed tears in the labrum of his hip that will now require surgery.
