The famous Argentine outfit has experienced its fair share of disappointment over the past few years but could soon be crowned South American champion, writes Marcus Haydon.
On Wednesday, Argentina’s River Plate will face Mexico’s Tigres in the first leg of the final of South America’s premier club competition, the Copa Libertadores. For Tigres, it’s their first appearance at this stage of the competition and makes them only the third Mexican side to have ever reached the final. River has won this tournament twice before - the last of which came 19 years ago - but it would be fair to say that it has experienced a great deal of ups and downs since.
