Sandro Rosell has been found not guilty of money laundering charges after spending 20 months in prison. The former Barcelona president, alongside his wife and four others, was accused of laundering fees for broadcast rights to Brazil’s matches and a sponsorship contract with Nike.
Rosell was facing a six-year prison term but the National Court could not prove the allegations.
The 55-year-old always maintained his innocence, and his allies in the press have said it was a miscarriage of justice to hold him in prison for so long if he did not commit the crime.
