FIFA officials arrested on corruption charges

An indictment for several top FIFA officials is expected soon, according to a report in the New York Times.

Swiss officials have arrested several top FIFA officials, who will be extradited to the United States on federal corruption charges.

FIFA leaders were gathered for their annual meeting in a Zurich hotel when several law enforcement officers arrived and arrested a number of FIFA representatives. Law enforcement officials told the New York Times that FIFA president Sepp Blatter was not among those arrested.

In all, more than 10 officials were arrested on charges which include wire fraud, racketeering and money laundering.
