FIFA President Sepp Blatter declared a "turning point" has been reached after nine FIFA officials and five corporate executives were indicted on charges of "racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies" on Wednesday, reported by the Department of Justice.
Swiss authorities carried out a raid on the Baur au Lac hotel, Zurich, as both U.S. and Swiss officials investigate alleged corruption within football's governing body which may stretch back over two decades. This includes the allocation of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar, respectively.
Blatter, who stands for re-election on Friday, has not been charged and took the opportunity to address the gathered media.
