Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez has won his first silverware since winning the treble in Luis Enrique’s first year, as his new club Al Sadd won the Qatar Cup.
The Doha-based club won 2-1 against El Jaish with goals from Baghdad Bounedjah and Jugurtha Hamroun. Sardor Rashidov scored for El Jaish, the previous holders.
Xavi had this to say about the win:
Al Sadd finished in 2nd place in the Qatar Stars League which enabled them access to the Qatar Cup, which is played by the top four teams in the league.
The 37-year-old midfielder came up through the ranks at La Masia and played for Barcelona’s senior team for 17 years.
