LONDON -- Three thoughts on England's 2-0 friendly win over France at Wembley Stadium.
1. Wembley pays its respects
The result and the match barely mattered, but the occasion definitely did. Wembley and English football paid dutiful remembrance to those who lost their lives in last week's Paris terror attacks.
During the pre-match ceremonies, Manchester United forward Anthony Martial mouthed a silent prayer to himself and strike partner Andre-Pierre Gignac was somber during the minute's silence. It was these moments, rather than any of the football that took place afterwards, that made Tuesday night's event important.
