Dramatic Toronto FC win adds to Canadian Championship folklore

Though not at its best in Vancouver on Wednesday night, TFC used its very last scoring opportunity to win the Voyageurs Cup and break Whitecaps hearts.

VANCOUVER – Since its inception in 2008, the Canadian Championship has not been short of drama. On a warm Wednesday night, another incredible chapter was added to the competition’s folklore, as Toronto FC claimed its first Voyageurs Cup title since 2012, and in the most unbelievable fashion possible.

Trailing 2-1 on aggregate deep into second-half stoppage time, it looked like holders Vancouver Whitecaps were on their way to a successful defence of the title they won for the first time last season after second-half strikes from substitute Nicolas Mezquida and Tim Parker.
