On a warm Wednesday night, another incredible chapter was added to the competition’s folklore, as Toronto FC claimed its first Voyageurs Cup title since 2012, and in the most unbelievable fashion possible.
Trailing 2-1 on aggregate deep into second-half stoppage time, it looked like holders Vancouver Whitecaps were on their way to a successful defence of the title they won for the first time last season after second-half strikes from substitute Nicolas Mezquida and Tim Parker.
