Don't sweat about the Gold Cup — it's not worth your attention

Allegations of corruption, deplorable fan behavior and poor playing conditions have turned an enticing tournament into a sideshow, writes Thomas Floyd.

PHILADELPHIA — A notoriously stoic figure, Michael Bradley couldn't help but let out a rare half-smile. It's pretty difficult to discuss the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a straight face.

"I say this with total endearment," he said. "It's a ridiculous tournament."

The U.S. national team captain made that remark earlier this month in Baltimore, as the knockout round loomed. But considering what we've seen since then, it's probably time to drop the "endearment" part.
