Diskerud still toeing the line of U.S. breakout

Sparingly used at the Gold Cup, the 24-year-old playmaker remains on the cusp of becoming an impact player for the U.S. national team.

WASHINGTON — Mix Diskerud has been an omnipresent force for the U.S. national team since the start of 2014 — that is, except for the games that count.

The 24-year-old playmaker has seen the field in 15 of the 19 friendlies the Americans have played in that span. But Diskerud didn't get off the bench in the four matches the U.S. logged at the 2014 World Cup, and he appeared in just two of six games for the squad that finished fourth at this summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup.
