Culers Talking: Ex-player Ramón Calderé on Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams and why Barcelona’s playing style is non-negotiable

Ramón Calderé is a former Barcelona player with a unique perspective on the evolution of the club.

The midfielder developed as a player in the Barcelona academy in the 1970s. This was before the old farmhouse that became known as La Masia was purchased in 1979 to house the great Bluagrana stars who would soon walk through the doors, from Pep Guardiola to Lionel Messi, and many others in between.

At fourteen years old, in 1973, Calderé’s journey began at Barcelona, the same year that Johan Cruyff joined the club as a player.

A decade later, Calderé would make his debut for the Barcelona first team under Terry Venables, and stuck around until just before the return of Cruyff as manager in 1988.
