BORDEAUX -- Three quick points from Croatia 2-1 Spain in Group D at Euro 2016
1. Spain finally succumb to European Championship defeat
On a sweltering night in Bordeaux, defending champions Spain lost their first European championship match since 2004 and will now face Italy in this tournament's round of 16.
Fast-breaking counterattacking from Croatia, an opponent of physical prowess, caused problems throughout. Bringing on Villarreal's Bruno Soriano to bolster the base of midfield alongside Sergio Busquets on the hour was a measure of Vicente Del Bosque's concern but they could not stop the outstanding Nikola Kalinic setting up an 87th minute winner from Ivan Perisic.
