Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly offered financial aid to his place of birth, the Portuguese island of Madeira, after several people lost their lives and many more had to be evacuated due to wildfires spreading across the region.
According to the Sun's James Riding, the forward spoke to Madeira President Miguel Albuquerque on the phone on Wednesday, and he pledged an unspecified amount of money to aid the crisis.
The 31-year-old also took to Facebook to offer his support:
He wrote (via the Sun): "It is with an aching heart that I’m seeing what’s happening in Madeira and other parts of the country.
