America started the 2025 Clausura season with a surprising victory by a 1-0 score away to Queretaro. While the current three straight champions should have been favorites, the team had decided, because of the lack of time for a pre season, to play the match with a mostly U23 squad and without their head coach, Andre Jardine. The team came into the match with Coach Diego Cervantes and with only 4 players who had regular playing time, a move that was met with a lot of controversy and yet in the end they were the better team against a very poor Queretaro.
