Club América vs. Cruz Azul suspended following Mexico City earthquake

Club América was set to host cross-town rivals Cruz Azul in a Copa MX edition of the Clásico Joven at Estadio Azteca this evening; but Mother Nature had other ideas as Mexico City was rocked by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake this afternoon. The massive earthquake’s power was felt all across Mexico City and some of the surrounding municipalities. Shortly after the earthquake, images and videos of the destruction began to spread across social medial platforms like wildfire. Office buildings, apartment complexes, schools, general infrastructure, and even the historic Estadio Azteca were shown as having been damaged. In response to the devastation, President Peña Nieto declared a state of emergency and announced that emergency PlanMX had been activated.
