Cruz Azul lived up to their recent legacy as the team that snatches defeat from victory and went from basically putting an end to the Nacho Ambriz era in America, to reviving the rumors of the end of Tomas Boy's era as Cruz Azul coach. Cruz Azul wasted a superb performance from Paraguayan forward Jorge Benitez in the second half when Aldo Leao Ramirez got red carded and the team collapsed under the weight of their history.
