Chelsea close in on January deal for defender, CEO confirms talks

The Senegalese defender arrived for a fee of £2.7m last summer and has failed to establish himself at his new club since then.

The former Nantes centre-back has played just once for Chelsea this season and is eager to move on in search of regular first team football.

Werder Bremen CEO Thomas Eichin has confirmed that they are negotiating a loan move with the Premier League outfit for the player.

“We are in negotiations”, he said.

A move away from Chelsea makes perfect sense for all parties involved. Despite the lack of defensive depth at Chelsea, Djilobodji is just not good enough to feature in the Premier League.
