Atletico Madrid laboured to a penalty-shootout win over PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday, booking their place in the Champions League quarter-finals alongside Manchester City, who defeated Dynamo Kiev on aggregate to advance.
Los Rojiblancos ran to a second 0-0 stalemate against PSV, but manager Diego Simeone's side emerged as 8-7 victors in the shootout, where Luciano Narsingh's miss meant an emotional exit for the visitors.
Manchester City also saw out a scoreless 90 minutes on Tuesday, but that was enough for the Premier League giants to advance thanks to their 3-1 triumph in the first leg. It wasn't all good news for the Citizens, though, after captain Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi suffered early injuries.
