Capital clash could decide if Pumas, Cruz Azul make postseason

Sunday's match will likely decide if one or both Mexico City clubs miss out on the Liguilla, writes Jon Arnold.

The Liga MX table has teams packed in tighter than a Mexico City Metro car, and two of the capital's clubs might be stranded on the platform when the Liguilla begins.

Pumas host Cruz Azul on Sunday afternoon, and both 'grandes' - two of Mexico's four historically successful and well-supported clubs - currently sit outside the playoff positions with just two matches to be played before the postseason begins. Cruz Azul is in ninth, one place away from qualification only because of an inferior goal difference, while Pumas sit a point back at 11th.
