Canada 1-0 Honduras: Johnson header gives Canadian three points

A first half goal by the Portland Timbers midfielder was enough to earn the full allotment of points for the home side.

VANCOUVER – A late first-half goal by Will Johnson gave Canada a crucial 1-0 victory over Honduras in its opening match in the CONCACAF semifinal round of 2018 World Cup qualifying.

In what was a solid performance in front 20,108 at BC Place, Benito Floro’s side claimed three valuable points and restored much-needed confidence in a beleaguered Canadian men’s national team program.

Unsurprisingly, the opening exchanges proved cagey from both sides, and it was not until the 27th minute that the first chance fell to the visitors.
