FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The goals left no doubts. The result, only more questions.
Brazil’s 4-1 victory against the United States national team Tuesday night was little more than a full-speed workout for its mix of domestic and Europe-based pros. But it was supposed to be so much more for Coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s American team, a final chance to test itself before an all-important Concacaf playoff match against Mexico on Oct. 10.
Klinsmann had said as much for a week — making plain before and after Friday’s win against Peru in Washington, and again leading to the game against Brazil at a half-filled Gillette Stadium — that there was no more time for experimenting, for new ideas, for new faces.
