Boost for Barcelona as Messi returns to full training

The Argentine took part in the first training session of Clasico week, raising hopes he could be set for a timely return at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday

Barcelona has been handed a huge boost ahead of Saturday's Clasico after Lionel Messi resumed training with the first team squad.

Messi, who has been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury against Las Palmas on Sept. 26, was joined by Ivan Rakitic, missing since Nov. 4, for Monday's session, according to Barca's official website.

The Argentine superstar was expected to miss the weekend's crunch clash at the Santiago Bernabeu but his involvement in training will raise Barca hopes that he could be set for a timely return from injury.
